IOH provides small two-room apartments with a kitchenette and a bath to families who wan to return to, and are capable of returning to, financial independence and self-sufficiency. Laundry facilities are available on site.
Each family must meet certain criteria in order to be accepted into the IOH program.
- Couples must be legally married
- Must have at least one child under the age of 17
- At least one adult must be employed at least full-time.
- All family members must be alcohol and drug free
- Must be capable of saving a minimum of $500 per month and paying a program fee of $150.00 per month.
The director of family services helps the families to: set goals appropriate for their needs and abilities; establish a career plan; obtain additional training; find and move into independent housing when they are ready; and require that their children attend school daily.
IOH offers a wide array of services to support our families while they are in the process of recovering from homelessness. The average length of stay is ten months, however a family may stay in on site housing for up to two years.
Services include:
- Intensive case management to help families in developing and implementing self-sufficiency plans
- Life skills training, including all aspects of financial management, decision making, problem solving and parenting
- Individual, group and family mental health counseling
- After-School tutoring and child care
- Summer Camp & Enrichment Programs
- Mandatory savings program
- Transportation assistance
- Employment and training assistance and counseling
- Food and household supply pantry
