The Programs and Services

IOH provides small two-room apartments with a kitchenette and a bath to families who want to return to, and are capable of returning to, financial independence and self-sufficiency.  Laundry facilities are available on site.

Each family must meet certain criteria in order to be accepted into the IOH program.

  • Single headed and legally married couples
  • Must have at least one child under the age of 17
  • At least one adult must be employed at least full-time.
  • All family members must be alcohol and drug free
  • Must be capable of saving a minimum of $500 per month and paying a program fee of $150.00 per month.

The director of family services helps the families to: set goals appropriate for their needs and abilities; establish a career plan; obtain additional training; find and move into independent housing when they are ready; and require that their children attend school daily.

IOH offers a wide array of services to support our families while they are in the process of recovering from homelessness.  The average length of stay is ten months, however a family may stay in on site housing for up to two years.

Services include:

  • Intensive case management to help families in developing and     implementing self-sufficiency plans
  • Life skills training, including all aspects of financial management,         decision making, problem solving and parenting
  • Individual, group and family mental health counseling
  • After-School tutoring and child care
  • Summer Camp & Enrichment Programs
  • Mandatory savings program
  • Transportation assistance
  • Employment and training assistance and counseling
  • Food and household supply pantry
