Letters from IOH Residents

Letter from an IOH Success Story

To Whom It May Concern:

In March of 2004, the Douglas Family (fictitious name), which consists of my husband and my two children and me were evicted from the apartments we were residing in at that time. During that time, my husband was the head of household and he lost his job. I was employed but not making enough money to support our financial needs. Once we received the eviction notice, we called a friend that gave us a contact name for Interfaith Outreach Home. We got in touch with the Case Manager, Deborah Walker-Little and from that point; we proceeded to meet with her. At that appointment, we were approved and placed in the Interfaith Outreach Transitional Housing Program.

Since we have been in the program, we have achieved so much. We have learned what it means to plan, budget, pay bills on time and most of all saving for rainy days. Before this program, we never knew what savings was. We just went paycheck to paycheck, only living for that day.

My husband is currently working full-time on the weekends and goes to school full-time during the week. I have been with the same job for 4-years and have gotten several raises and bonus checks. We are doing quite well as we have saved thousands of dollars.

Based on the values that we have learned and the money that we have saved, we look forward to our next endeavor, knowing that we have and will achieve all things.

Sincerely,
The Douglas Family

Dear IOH staff and supporter,

I just wanted to thank you again for giving us a chance here at IOH.  We have been able to do things here that we haven't been able to do in years.  My husband's liscense has been suspended since 2004.  He got it this week because we were able to afford to put a little extra money towards it.  Our car hasn't been running for almost two years.  We were able to get it fixed.  I thank you for giving us a chance and I know that with the help of the staff here we as a family will be able to strive for better, and improve our previous quality of life as well as learn how to budget and manage money correctly.

I thank you very much.
